Next week, the city of Regensburg, Germany will welcome the great European finale of Europavox campus. Before the participants arrive for a week of meetings, visits and concerts, Selina, a student from OTH Regensburg gives us a little tour of the city:
Hello and welcome to a brief summary of seven of the most famous, popular or student-relevant places in Regensburg.
Regensburg as a city has, besides the OTH itself, many things to offer!
The Danube
Donau – or ‚Danube‘ in english, can be described as a beautiful river that, with a total length of over 2,800 kilometers, is the second-largest river in Europe. In the ‚aldstadt‘ of Regensburg, meaning the older, historic parts in the center of the city, one can find popular places used for gathering with friends, family or fellow students. You can enjoy brought food and drinks there, plan romantic dates and escape the stress of your everyday life there.

Steinerne Brücke
Steinerne Brücke – roughly translated to ‚stoney bridge‘. This place in Regensburg may not sound like much at first, but it turns out to be so much more than just a simple bridge. Its construction took an estimated 11 years and has been approximately completed in 1146. The bridge is over 300 meters long, meaning it takes about five or more minutes to cross it at a leisurely pace. It is a huge historical landmark of the city of Regensburg and, therefore, definitely worth a visit.
Stadtamhof
Stadtamhof – this small city district, which can be visited, for example, by crossing the Steinerne Brücke, offers historical objects of interest as well as places like restaurants, bars or beer gardens to meetup, relax and exchange. Stadtamhof impresses with buildings like the Andreasstadl (hotel, restaurant, café, art academy and cinema, all in one building), the rococo church and the hospital church of St. Katharina. Another local restaurant, which is popular for serving different types of cakes, the ‚Kuchenbar‘ (directly translated to cake bar) enjoys great popularity both within and outside the city.

Bismarckplatz
Bismarckplatz – the neoclassically designed square was built at the beginning of the 19th century and is named after the Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (therefore it could be translated to Bismarckplace). During the summer times, the Bismarckplatz resembles a popular meeting place, especially among students.
Kneitinger Regensburg and the Gaffel Regensburg
The Kneitinger Regensburg is a local pub that comes the closest to resembling a traditional Bavarian pub in Regensburg where Regensburger beer is being served. The sports bar, the Gaffel Regensburg, should also be included in this brief list of places one should pay a visit to.
Stenz Eis
Stenz Eis – among locals, this place is the most popular and well-known ice cream parlor all around Regensburg. Especially during the summer, the ice cream served at this place is particularly delicious and good for combating the warm temperatures.
Bratwurstkuchel
Bratwurstkuchel – if you’re still looking for a popular place to get something to eat from, you will be pleased to hear about the Bratwurstkuchl (‚kuchl‘ does not have a direct translation, but Bratwurst means frying or fried sausage). The mustard, sauerkraut and sausages are being homemade by this place, which gives their dishes the unique taste. It is very popular among tourists as well as locals and residents.
Please have a lovely time in Regensburg,
Selly
