Around the campus with... Gabriel Roșu

From TV contests to the stage of the Europavox Campus springboard in Constanța on the 28th of February 2023, Gabriel Roșu, a great lover of poetry, music and theatre, has charmed Romania and the jury. This leads him to the Europavox Campus European final, which will take place in Clermont-Ferrand on the 26th of April 2023 and will host four different nationalities. With the date approaching, we asked him what he would recommend in terms of food, sightseeing and films in Constanța.

Could you describe a traditional dish from your country?

A traditional food, representative of my country, are sarmales… yes, from a historical point of view, this culinary dish was borrowed from the Turks. Cabbage leaves are stuffed with a ground meat, rice and herbs mixture and then cooked with tomato juice and some smoked meat for extra flavor. Traditionally, cabbage rolls are served warm with polenta and sour cream.

Do you have a cheap and easy recipe to recommend for the students?

I strongly recommend noodles with cheese. Make the noodles, drain almost all the water. Leave a little hot water. Put 2 slices of cheese and break them into small pieces. The remaining hot water is used to melt the cheese.

The movie theatre

What is your favourite international film of all time?

I really like “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. Why? Because it manages to be a film located on two levels. The foreground: the narrative that can be understood by the masses. The second plan: symbols, references, psychological references, traumatology, philosophy, family psychology, etc.; which represents the abstract plan that is not understood by everyone. It is a film that is easy to watch but that says a lot, a balance that is difficult to achieve.

Which film from your country is an absolute must-see?

Try Marocco/Mikado. It is an universal story about the moral responsibility of actions that lead to fatal consequences, but also about the chain of small actions done with good intentions that cause the collapse of a skeleton built on a strong love. In a chain of events in which everyone had good intentions, but it all ends in death… Who’s to blame?

What is your favorite place in Constanța?

I love going to Rotterdam Park, located near the sea and beach. It is a quiet park where I like to chill and take a walk.
